dMAT Affected Fields in India (2026)

The dMAT affected fields list is the official document published by APS India to identify which selected Master’s applicants from India need to take the dMAT exam based on their bachelor’s degree. It groups eligible undergraduate degrees into three categories:

Engineering
Commerce/Accounting/Finance/Economics
Business/Management

APS also provides a list of fields that do not automatically require the dMAT exam. Your inclusion in the list only determines whether you need to take and clear the dMAT before APS issues your certificate. It does not confirm that your degree is formally recognised in Germany, and clearing the dMAT does not replace separate degree-recognition checks.

How Does APS India Decide the dMAT Requirement?

APS India decides your classification for dMAT from the official wording on your degree certificate and transcript, not from your course’s popular name or the Master's programme you intend to apply for. Two students with degrees that sound identical on a resume can land on opposite sides of this list if their official branch or specialisation differs.

Before you check the dMAT affected fields below, keep these points in mind.

The official title decides everything: APS India reads your degree certificate, marksheets, and transcript. Marketing names used by your college or a consultant carry no weight.
Branch matters more than the base degree: A BTech is covered only when its branch is clearly an Engineering discipline. A BTech in an unclear or non-Engineering branch is not automatically included.
The list is not exhaustive: A field absent from the tables can still be classified as affected if it clearly matches one of the three groups.
A single keyword is not proof either way: A title containing "Engineering," "Management," "Business," or "Technology" is not enough on its own if the actual discipline does not match.

Computer Science, AI & Data Science Degrees Affected by dMAT

This is where most confusion arises because APS India distinguishes between Engineering-titled Computer degrees and standalone Computer or Technology degrees.

Only Computer-related degrees that fall under the listed Engineering fields are included in the dMAT-affected list. Standalone Computer Science, AI, or Data Science degrees do not automatically fall under it.

If your degree title reads something like "BTech in Computer Science and Business Systems," check the exact branch wording on your certificate rather than assuming from the shorthand name, since hybrid titles are the most common source of misclassification in this group.

Biotechnology and Food Technology Degrees Covered Under dMAT

The same Engineering-versus-standalone degree distinction applies to biotechnology-related fields. Biotechnology Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Bioengineering carry an Engineering branch designation and fall within the affected fields. In contrast, B.Sc. Biotechnology, B.Sc. Medical Biotechnology, Microbiology and Life Sciences are Science degrees and are not automatically covered.

The same rule extends to Food-related degrees. Food Engineering and Food Engineering and Technology are covered because their branch is Engineering. Food Technology and Food Processing Technology are not automatically covered unless your official title carries an Engineering designation.

dMAT Affected Commerce, Accounting, Finance and Economics Fields in India

APS India has listed 75 fields where the specialisation falls within Commerce, Accounting, Banking, Taxation, Financial Markets, or Economics. A BCom, BCom (Hons), Accounting, Finance, or Economics degree is directly affected. A mixed or unusually named Commerce degree still needs individual verification against your transcript before you assume either way.

If your BBA, BBM, and BMS degree falls within one of these fields, you need to take the dMAT exam for APS verification. However, sector-specific management degrees such as Hotel Management fall under a separate assessment category and do not automatically qualify under this group.

No, not automatically, even though many Hotel Management or Hospitality degrees carry "Management" or "BBA" in their names. How Does APS India Classify Interdisciplinary & Mixed Degrees for dMAT Requirement?

Not every degree fits neatly into one of the three primary groups listed by APS. So APS India classifies these interdisciplinary degrees on the basis of the official title, branch, honours subject, and transcripts rather than the course name alone.

BTech or Bachelor of Technology: Covered only when your official branch is clearly Engineering, such as Mechanical or Civil Engineering. The base BTech title on its own does not include every Technology field.
Economics: Included specifically because the dMAT group is meant to cover economic sciences. This takes in BA Economics, BSc Economics, Business Economics, and related variants.
BCom or BBA with specialisations: Falls within the dMAT requirement only if your official degree is formally awarded as Commerce, Business, Finance, Economics or Management.
Sector-specific management fields: Hotel Management, Tourism Management, Aviation Management and similar fields are not classified by the word "Management" alone, and go through a separate assessment.
Mismatched title and duration: Where your degree title, duration and field look inconsistent with standard Indian degree specifications, APS India reviews the case individually rather than applying a blanket rule.
