dMAT Exam Germany 2026: Dates, Fees, Eligibility & Format

The dMAT(Digital Master Test) is a standardised academic aptitude test introduced in June 2026 for Indian students applying for Master’s in Germany. The dMAT exam is mandatory for your APS documentation from the Summer 2027 intake in Germany if you're an Indian student with an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business, Commerce, Finance, and related fields.

This guide provides detailed information about the DMAT exam, including its eligibility, fees, and registration details.

Key Highlights:

  • The dMAT exam does not replace the APS certificate and is an additional requirement if you are applying for a Master’s in Germany.
  • The first dMAT exam in India will be held on 26 September 2026, with registrations closing on 15 September 2026.
  • The dMAT test consists of the Core Module and the General Academic/Subject Module, is conducted in English, and costs €150 (approximately ₹16,300).
  • The dMAT exam is scored on a 0-200 scale, and a low score doesn’t lead to automatic rejection.

What is the dMAT Exam for Germany?

The dMAT is an academic aptitude test for Indian graduate students and an additional document within your APS verification process for selected groups of Master's applicants. It is not an entrance exam set by individual German universities, and it doesn't replace the APS certificate itself. APS India continues to verify the authenticity of your academic documents exactly as before.

How Does the dMAT Score Affect German University Admissions?

The dMAT score does not directly determine your admission to a master's program in Germany. Each university decides independently how much weight to give it in their evaluation. A high score does not guarantee admission, and a low score does not automatically result in rejection.
That said, a strong dMAT score can meaningfully improve your chances at universities that actively consider it. Georg-August University Göttingen, for example, encourages all applicants for the Data Science program to take the dMAT, with a good score significantly strengthening their application.

Who Needs to Take the dMAT Exam?

You need to take the dMAT exam if you're applying for the Summer Semester 2027 Master's intake or later in Germany and your undergraduate degree falls in the following fields:

  • Engineering
  • Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or Economics
  • Business or Management

If your undergraduate programme is interdisciplinary, e.g., Business Analytics, Industrial Engineering, Data Science, or Financial Technology, check your classification against the official APS list of affected fields to find out if your degree is exempt.

Who is Exempt from the dMAT Requirement?

You don’t have to take the dMAT exam in the following situations:

  • You're applying for a Bachelor’s or PhD programme in Germany.
  • Your undergraduate degree isn't in Engineering, Commerce/Accounting/Finance/Economics, or Business/Management.
  • You're on an exchange, double-degree, or university partnership programme.
  • You already registered for APS or completed documentation before 29 June 2026.

dMAT Syllabus & Exam Pattern (2026)

The dMAT syllabus consists of two modules: a Core Module and a General Academic Module, with a 30-minute break between them and a total test time of about 3.5 hours. The Core Module tests general cognitive skills, while the General Academic Module assesses how well you apply academic knowledge and reasoning to unfamiliar material.

All tasks are in a single-choice answer format, and the test language is English.

Here’s how the dMAT exam is structured:

Module

What It Covers

Duration (Approx.)

Core Module

Figure Sequences, Mathematical Equations, and Latin Squares

75 minutes

General Academic Module

dMAT 2026 Scoring and Results

The dMAT reports your performance using two scores: a dMAT Score on a standardised scale of 0 to 200 and a Percentile Rank showing how you performed relative to other test-takers.

dMAT Score

Your raw correct answers in the dMAT exam are converted to a scale of 0 to 200 with a mean of 100. This score is reported separately for your Core Module and General Academic/Subject Module results, then combined into a total. A low dMAT score does not automatically cause APS India to refuse your APS certificate.

dMAT Percentile Rank

Your dMAT percentile rank shows how you stand against every other test-taker across all centres and test dates. For example, a percentile rank of 70 means you scored better than 70% of test-takers. Universities can use this percentile for a cut score, for example, selecting only the top 10% of applicants.
