How to Register for the SAT Exam?
Registering for the SAT is a simple online process, but planning makes all the difference. Choose your test date early, as seats at preferred centres fill up fast. Make sure your profile details are accurate, complete the payment on time, and use official prep resources to get ready before test day.
Here's the step-by-step process to register for the SAT Exam in 2026:
Step 1: Create Your College Board Account
Begin by signing up at the College Board website. This profile will serve as your hub for all SAT-related activities, including registration, score reporting, and access to preparation resources. Make sure your personal information matches your ID, as discrepancies can cause issues on test day.

Step 2: Complete the SAT Registration Form
Fill out the application with your personal details, academic information, and intended test type. Ensure all information is accurate, as errors can affect your registration.

Step 3: Select Test Date and Test Centre
Choose a test date that fits your preparation schedule. The SAT is offered multiple times a year, and test centres may fill up quickly, so it’s best to book early. Check the registration deadlines for each test date, including regular, late, and change deadlines.

Note: Upload a Passport-Style Photo
Upload a clear, front-facing photo that meets the SAT photo guidelines. Avoid selfies or casual images.

Step 4: Pay the SAT Registration Fee
The standard SAT registration fee is USD 68. For Indian test-takers, an additional regional fee of USD 43 and applicable GST are charged, bringing the total SAT exam fee to USD 130.98 (around INR 11,700). Late registration attracts an extra fee of USD 38 (approximately INR 3,400).

After completing your SAT registration and payment, you will receive a confirmation email from the College Board. This email includes your test date, test centre, and registration details. Keep this email safe, as you will also need it to print your admission ticket. Make sure to carry an acceptable photo ID and your admission ticket on exam day.
SAT Exam Registration via Mail
If you are unable to register for the SAT online, you may apply by mail, but only under specific circumstances. Mail registration is allowed in the following cases:
- Late registration is not available online.
- You are registering through an SAT international representative.
- You are unable to upload a digital photo during online registration.
- You are below 12 years of age (photo requirement is waived).
- You can pay the SAT fee only by cheque or money order.
- You require Sunday testing due to a religious observance on Saturday (a signed letter from a religious leader is required).
- Your assigned test centre is more than 120 km from your home and you are requesting a centre change.
For any of these scenarios, you can request a SAT Student Registration Booklet from the College Board or your counsellor. This booklet contains a paper application form that can be filled out and submitted by mail along with a cheque or money order. The USIEF represents the College Board in India. All mail from India will be forwarded to them.
SAT Exam Registration for Students Under 13
Students under 13 can still register for the SAT, but the process requires parent or guardian involvement.
- A parent or guardian must complete and submit the Account Creation Consent Form to the College Board.
- Once the form is approved, the College Board will create the student’s online account and share instructions for the next steps in the registration process.
From the Desk of Yocket
SAT registration is straightforward, but it requires careful attention to detail. Personal, academic, and test centre details must be entered accurately, so it’s best to review everything before final submission.
The registration form also lets you Save and Exit at any step, so there’s no pressure to complete it in one sitting. Registering at least 3-4 months before university deadlines gives enough time for preparation, possible retakes, and timely score submission.
If any step feels confusing, Yocket Prep is here to support the entire SAT journey, from registration to results.
